NC3ADL Virtual Conference - Online Together: We Are 58 Strong (Morning Sessions)

In celebration of National Distance Learning Week, Instructional Technologies will host a drop-in viewing location for NC3ADL’s Online Together: We Are 58 Strong virtual conference. This online conference reflects some of the shared values that are important to distance learning including: building community, fostering engagement, and being inclusive to everyone.

We’d love for you to join us in the Technologies Building, Lab 219 to enjoy some snacks and watch one or more of the morning sessions. Please RSVP by registering by the end of the day on Wednesday, November 7th.

  • 10:00 Keynote I: “Being There” for Our Online Students
    Dr. Torria Davis Author of Visual Design for Online Learning. 
    In face-to-face classes we demonstrate support and “being there” through physical gestures and eye contact. How do we demonstrate “being there” for students in our online classrooms? This workshop will highlight several practical ways to demonstrate “being there” for our online students.
     
  • 11:00 Keynote 2: "Networking our Networked Students: Providing Online Learners with a Sense of Place, Community, and Pride"
    Dr. Abbie Brown Professor of Instructional Technology and Chair of the Department of Mathematics, Science and Instructional Technology at East Carolina University
    Good online instruction should provide opportunities to broaden one’s personal and professional network similar to those offered on a traditional campus. Dr. Brown’s presentation focuses on teaching strategies and activities that increase online students’ sense of community and social engagement.
