Deficit Minded to Equity Mindedness: Level I - Fixing the Pond

This interactive and intrapersonal reflective practice will integrate various components of equity with student success. Participants will gain critical information and various approaches to assist historically marginalized students. Priority will be given to employees who have "not" participated in the Office of Institutional Equity & Inclusion (OIEI) reflective practice sessions (ie. Courageous Conversations, Implicit Bias, Reflection to Reframing, or Equity-Minded Student Success) or Racial Equity Institute training.

Outcomes:

  • Participants will have a better understanding of the terms: diversity, inclusion, equity, biases, privilege, inequity, racism, and equality.
  • Participants will identify what they can do as an individual.
  • Participants will identify what their organization can do to identify and erase inequities.
  • Participants will be more cognizant of their biases, and privileges; and how to use them to combat inequities.
  • Participants will learn about the research related to this work and its correlation to the institutional structure of inequities.
